With effect from 1 April 2026, the Master’s programmes offered at DTMD will be transferred to the Private University of the Principality of Liechtenstein (UFL). Recognition and accreditation of the programme and new university
The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) is a postgraduate degree recognised under Swiss federal law and fully integrated into the Swiss Higher Education System under the swissuniversities Qualifications Framework. It is awarded by Switzerland’s leading universities, including ETH Zurich, the University of Bern, and the University of Geneva. UFL follows the Swiss academic systems and is integrated in the Swissconsortium.
Of specific note, in dentistry, the MAS is the established degree for full-time clinical specialist training at Switzerland’s top university dental schools. At the University of Bern (zmk bern), the Faculty of Medicine awards MAS titles in six specialties, including a 4-year, 240-ECTS programme in Orthodontics (accredited by NEBEOP and leading to the Swiss federal specialist title) and a 3-year programme in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (accredited by the EFP) encompassing approximately 4,000 hours of clinical, scientific, and didactic training. The University of Geneva awards MAS degrees of 180–240 ECTS across four dental specialties. These are among the most competitive and rigorous clinical training programmes in European dentistry.
The UFL is a fully state-recognised and system-accredited university, listed in the Anabin database as a recognised private university since February 2003. Our master’s programmes at UFL hold individual programme accreditations by the university and are in the process of being additionally accredited by AHPGS Freiburg. With 120 ECTS credits, the programme meets or exceeds the credit load of many traditional M.Sc. degrees.
The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Orthodontics is a part-time postgraduate programme that provides dentists with advanced postgraduate training in the diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions and jaw anomalies. The programme comprises 120 ECTS credits, divided into 80 ECTS for taught modules and 40 ECTS for the master’s thesis.
The curriculum aligns with current scientific standards in orthodontics and integrates both classical and modern digital treatment methods. Students acquire comprehensive competencies in diagnostics, treatment planning, and the application of fixed and removable appliances as well as modern aligner therapy.
The programme follows a blended learning concept: 27 face-to-face days for hands-on practice and 17 online days for theory and case discussions. Modules are delivered in block format, designed to be compatible with professional practice.
